Through active participation we are better informed about changes in legislation that affect both our customers and us.

REMODELERS COUNCIL of the GHBA is dedicated to the promotion of excellence and
professionalism within, and public awareness of the Remodelors Council. We achieve this through
education, certification and service to the membership, industry and the community. Bruce A.
Sommers has served on the Board of Directors and was co-chair of the Government Relations
Committee
GREATER HOUSTON BUILDERS ASSOCIATION (GHBA) is dedicated to organizing,
influencing and improving the economic, political, social and educational opportunities for all
segments of the construction industry and the communities that it serves.
TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF BUILDERS (TAB) directs its efforts and provides representation on
the state level with the primary purpose of working with the Texas legislature when it is in session.
Bruce A. Sommers is an active participant in the continuing efforts of the Remodelors Council of this
organization and has served as a member of the Building Standards Task Force sub committee of the
Government Relations Committee.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HOME BUILDERS (NAHB) is a trade association whose
mission is to enhance the political climate for housing and the building industry, and promotes
policies that keep housing a national priority. Our goal is to provide and expand opportunities for all
Americans to have safe, decent and affordable housing. Bruce A. Sommers is an active participant in
many of the educational programs
AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF BUILDING DESIGN - TEXAS SOCIETY is a nationally
recognized association providing a code of ethics and educational resources for the professional
building designer. Bruce A. Sommers has served several years on the Texas State Board of Directors
and is a two term past President of the Houston Chapter
TEXAS INSTITUTE OF BUILDING DESIGN (TIBD) is committed to developing new improved
design and educational standards, encouraging inter-professional and legislative relations in the
building industry, and promoting research in the aesthetic and technical aspects of the profession.
Bruce A. Sommers has served several years on the Texas State Board of Directors and is a two term
past President of the Houston Chapter.
CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL BUILDING DESIGNER (CPBD) to qualify for this credential an
individual must first possess a minimum of six years of educational and professional design
experience. After a thorough review of qualifications and testing the individual must also receive the
approval of the Board of Examiners. To maintain this certification requires continuing education.
